Noninvasive respiratory support: fast, easy and effective.

The aim of the wet lab is to teach the most advanced techniques of non-invasive respiratory support that can be provided in dyspneic patients in order to improve the lung function and avoid intubation or also to assist animals after extubation, recovering from general anesthesia. In particular, the lab will be dedicated to the learning of the techniques including continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) (helmet CPAP and Boussignac CPAP) and the administration of oxygen via High Flow Nasal Cannula. The attendees will learn how to assemble these equipment/devices? while applying them to manikins or cadavers’ heads. Different scenarios will be simulated, starting from a simpler one, where only a source of oxygen is available, to the most advanced ones in which dedicated equipment can be used to generate CPAP. All the practical tips on how to optimize the use of the equipment to make the treatment safe and comfortable to the animals. Practical indications will be provided for clinical monitoring of the effects of CPAP usage and how to manage its use over the time. At the end of the workshop the attendees will gain good knowledge of the theoretical basics and practical aspects of the non-invasive ventilatory support.
